Association of Pentecostal and Evangelical Clergy of Kenya (APECK)

The Association of Pentecostal and Evangelical Clergy of Kenya (APECK) is registered with Registrar of Societies and brings together clergy from all denominations for purposes of actualizing the Church Agenda that include among others birthing out revival, soul winning and initiating programs towards a dignified future for the vulnerable and the destitute in the society.
The Association brings together the Clergy from various pastors’ fellowships and Colleges of Bishops from all parts of the country, becoming the single most inclusive body of the clergy in the country. This Association was founded in response to the need to mitigate the threats facing the clergy and church as well as tapping in to the emerging opportunities. The ultimate goal is to usher in revival and allow the clergy to take up its place as the moral conscience and compass of the nation.
The Pentecostals and Evangelicals in Kenya form 53.4% of the total population spread out in the 120,000 congregations each having at least one Clergy. APECK undertook a record-breaking exercise of collecting views from the Clergy across the country through clergy county forums and diaspora. The views collected were consolidated into one document referred to as “Church Initiative & Agenda”. APECK went ahead and established working structure that cascades from the national level to the grass root levels making the two-way communication faster, effective and very efficient.
The last two decades have been difficult for the church in Kenya with legislations and political pronouncements threatening to stifle the operations and mandate of the Church. For eight years a ban on new registration has been in force; threat to remove Christian Education from the school curriculum; parliamentary bills on capping the offerings and taxing the church; closing small churches and instituting State-regulation of Churches and Bible Colleges; and total disregard of the Clergy as essential service providers.
The threats have touched on the sanctity of our core beliefs and institutions such as marriages and families. Homosexuality and atheism are gaining roots with the support of the elite and human rights crusaders. Taxes on marriages threaten family. These and many other threats can only be faced by a united Church led by united Clergy. For many years that unity was elusive and no suitable special-purpose vehicle was available. This has now been addressed by APECK which has gained acceptance and approval across the counties of Kenya and fellowships of the Clergy.
The 120,000 plus Clergy form a pool of untapped potential which if fully activated and refocused on the general societal responsibility could be become the most effective instrument for socio-economic and political transformation. The Clergy in Kenya will no longer be neutral or fence sitters when critical matters of the nation are being addressed.

The church through the Clergy has immense opportunities that include offering spiritual guidance to the Nation; promoting peace, cohesion and tolerance in order to harness from the diversity of the Kenyan communities; empowerment of the clergy to become agents of change to the society; offering national guidance as a moral compass of the society; offering leadership in national matters; participating more actively in advocacy against retrogressive practices, excesses of government and promoting rehabilitation of the youth and other victims of bad choices and exposures. The clergy when empowered would broaden the roles they play and widen their space of influence for the common good of the church and nation.
